Steve-O 9 Report post Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Hi, I just caught this short video demo of gasoline and additives damaging plastics more than ethanol. Enjoy, it's a whopping 20 seconds long. I apologize if this has been previously posted here. Edited February 22, 2014 by Steve-O 1 TD reacted to this
gasisoutrageous 85 Report post Posted February 22, 2014 Nathan Vander Griend, an insurer of ethanol plants, has done a lot of work on this. He showed me an experiment involving the rubber hosing seen in fuel lines. Very fascinating, yet something that doesn't take a whole lot.
BJoe 28 Report post Posted February 22, 2014 You know, so long as I get to keep working there, I should just break down and get some of the fuel line the hobby shop I work for sells to try this. We have DuBro brand Silicone, Tygon, and Neoprene line and it would be interesting to see a length of each put in bottles of 10% vs 85%. I've even though of doing a Red Solo Cup test to see how well the college student's best friend holds up to the two.
Billyk24 16 Report post Posted February 22, 2014 Interesting video that raises a question: why does the underwriters or who ever mandate special fuel hoses for the E85 pumps while anything goes for pump gas fuel hoses?
1outlaw 10 Report post Posted February 23, 2014 Take two Styrofoam cups. Do NOT use much gas due to mess. Pour a small amount of gasoline into one cup. Pour denatured ethanol into the other. Last time I tried this the gas cup lost it's bottom before I quit pouring. the ethanol cup was unaffected. 1 gasisoutrageous reacted to this
