Just got robbed by the side of the highway today...

Recommended Posts

Coming back into the lower peninsula for the afternoon, I decided to reroute and go to Cheboygan to fill my car's tank. At 1/4 full, I get there and find that the E85 is out of order. So, I was forced to go to Meijer in Petoskey and pay $3.29/gallon. Worst spread I have memory of buying it at. And worse yet, I paid $1 a gallon less down in Lansing on Monday! Meijer is taking advantage of E85 users in Michigan, and especially elsewhere in the state. Even with the fact that Meijer gets their E85 from a third-party supplier, there is no reason for E85 to be $3.29 in a corn belt state like Michigan.

I do not get that either- I have never been impressed with Meijer pricing- They have always been about like Kwik Trip which until only the last couple of months was almost never competitive. Of course Kwik Trip has always bought E98 direct from ethanol plants- then screwed up a good thing by hauling it to rented tank space at oil terminals.

They just don't seem to get it. Nonetheless, the price did come back down at many locations. It is $2.99 at most locations where it was $3.09, and it's $2.89 on west Saginaw in Lansing (competition?). Still $3.09 up north. When I filled up that day, I noticed someone in an Equinox using the good stuff on the other side of the pump. Made sure to stop and thank them for using it, especially with the horrible spread.
