Ethanol and Ethyl historical presentation

Recommended Posts

I was flipping through channels, and noticed some movie from 40 or 50 years ago where the guy said "fill 'er up with ethyl".  I remember my dad saying this once or twice when I was 5 or 6 years old, back when he had his 1973 yellow Buick Electra (AKA yellow submarine).  So I searched ethyl gas, and I found an interesting presentation on it that also talks about that and ethanol from a historical perspective:  http://www.radford.edu/~wkovarik/papers/ethylconflict.html

It's amazing how some of the same concerns and issues from 90 years ago still persist today.  I couldn't believe it talked about cellullosic ethanol production in 1920.  It goes to show you just how true the saying,  "those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it" can be.  The ethanol industry needs to learn from these mistakes from yesteryear.
