Ethanol More Expensive than Gasoline

Recommended Posts

how can this be?

Why would this be allowed to happen?

How can the ethanol industry NOT see this as a long term threat?

Why don't they (ethanol industry) care?

Where will the folks making a killing on this fiasco be when the SHTF and the system crashes/rug is pulled out?

actually, isn't the RFS the real problem?....

With a "captive audience" (oil industry) that HAS TO BUY their product (by law).... it is to their advantage to run up the price of ethanol.  If this means over producing (causing a spike in the corn price)...  If it means selling ethanol overseas to avoid a flood of ethanol dragging down the domestic market...

Makes sense.

Those of use actually working to push for a REAL FUEL alternative (clean, renewable, domestic) to gasoline!

Only goes to show their support (even their financial support) of alternative fuels, e85, blender pumps, FFVs has been a mere "greenwashing" window dressing to cover for the fact that their real motive is the REAL green... paper USD!

Screw them!

Capitalism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for profit, usually in competitive markets.

Right, Wrong, or Indifferent.....It is what it is!

Except it isnt capitalism..it is welfare..Mandated 14 Billion Gallons..AND Subidized

Capitalism would be installing E85/ Blender Pumps and allowing the consumer to decide.. communism is Mandating E10..forcing ethanol in everyone's Gasoline whether they want it or not

as my avatar picture (yellow flag with the P***ED off looking rattler!) would indicate... I'm all for the free market, the constitution, small government and freedom.... but as what people are saying here... this is NOT capitalism.  This is government stepping in and preventing capitalism.  Capitalism is where the market (consumers) dictate the demand.  If a product is good enough and there is a need for it we buy it.

If we buy to much of it (outstripping the supply) it will cause the price to rise.  This will trigger new producers of this product to enter the field, increasing the supply to meet the demand.  Or it will cause people to either 1.  use less of the product or 2.  find alternatives to the product.  BOTH of these lead to less demand, causing prices to lower...

How's that for a 30 second review of Unit 2 of "Intro to Economics".

What we have here is a government mandate that forces a consumer to use a product regardless of the prices.  A producer that has EVERY incentive to keep people from having any alternative, so that they are forced to buy the product they produce...

To quote the great Ronald Reagan "government is not the SOLUTION to the problem... government IS the problem"

In this case the government intervention is infringing on the market, and preventing it from working.

I agree that capitalism/free market systems work, but ONLY when they are allowed to work.  Mandates, supports, quotas... from the government only slow or infringe upon this system.
