The "miracle" of psyllium is the soluble fiber in the husks, I believe. As far as the rest of the grain, I am not quite sure what THAT is used for. So maybe a possibility here...What do the makers of metamucil DO with the rest of it, or do they buy just the husks as a raw material???

I use something call Profibe (citris pectin, gar gum, and soy protein) that is similar to Metamucil. Supposedly the water soluble fibers absorb cholesterol so I don't have to take the statins.
