cessna 9 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 I'm defending ethanol over at Supercub.org again saying the E10 should go as far as E0 because our old engines aren't efficient enough to burn all the fuel before going out the exhaust. I say the little bit of oxygen in E10 helps burn more fuel so power and economy are the same. Well another guy says this quote. I can't find any info about EAA testing ethanol but know you were involved. What blend did EAA test. Steve, the EAA did a study in the 80s showing that non-ethanol fuel gives more range than ethanol fuel (a C150 was used for the test under a pipeline patrol scenario). I'll try to find it, but it came with my EAA autofuel STC kit. Thanks
cessna 9 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks for responding. Guess I'll have to admit I'm wrong on the other forum. I don't quite understand how the range could take a 10% hit when we are talking 3.5% oxygen and 3.5% fewer btu's. Like 1outlaw said, when E10 was using regular 87 octane, there was little if any loss.
