  1. My Cavalier was converted to run on E85 and the mileage and performance is quite acceptable. I have had no problems with any of my fuel system since this was done in 2006. This is a great reason to buy E85 in Michigan and I don't stop in for fill ups anymore than when I fueled up with regular unleaded. I also do a 50/50 mix on my Chrysler with great results. Another good reason to buy E85 here in Michigan! Mixing will work with most cars. Don't be afraid to try it. Also, less pollution goes into the air (let's not forget that) and less money into the pockets of OPEC.
  2. I see that the Pulstar plugs are being used. I was thinking of them but opted for the Nology plugs instead. Has anyone tried the Nology yet? Mine will be here next week. I'm putting them in my converted E85 Cavalier.

To change the fuel ratios you just remove the back panel (4 screws), toggle to the setting you desire, there is a diagram setting on the back panel for your choice and reattach the back panel. That easy! No other switches to do. The converter is fully automatic. Hope this helps. I'll try to get some photos if people want them.
  6. If there are, let me know. I'd be glad to offer advice to anyone trying to convert if they needed it. Or ... if you are thinking about buying one, I'd be glad to try to answer your questions.
  7. I'd like to remind everyone that 85% less of our money goes "overseas" and stays here. The really big factor is the Greenhouse gas problem world wide and how FFV help to lower them. It would be nice if the auto manufacturers would make an effort to improve the fuel mileage of our E85 vehicles. Perhaps that is on the drawing board now.
  8. I returned to the richer setting to see if the gas mileage goes up a bit. I also noticed that the car needed two or three tries to start first thing in the morning. Now at the richer setting, it starts first time. I can up it one setting higher still for richness. That would not happen until October, if at all. My plans are to see how it runs and what kind of mileage it would get with just gasoline while using the FullFlex converter. That would occur towards the end of September. The Cavalier is still happy with the E85, purring like a kitten.
  9. Not from me here in the Detroit area. Warren Meijer is down to $2.28 for E85 and $2.38 for unleaded. One mile away unleaded was $2.35. Any other Michigan reports?
  10. Meijer is down to $2.44. Just before a holiday, that was a surprise.
  11. Boosted, The intake goes through my fender well and takes in air from a slat below my headlight. It seems a bit more peppy! Now I just need to work on bringing that mpg up a little higher.
  12. Thanks tschaid and Boosted for the advice. I will try to be more patient. I did think of moving back to my best mileage setting. I have now put on a cold air intake on my Cavalier and this probably means going back to where I started.
  13. I changed the setting down one to run a little leaner and my milage dropped to 21.3 and 21.7mpg. It was getting in the 22's. My Full Flex only has one more setting for me to try, the leanest setting possible. Might as well give it a try to see what happens. Anybody care to offer up some advice?

  15. In my quest for the truth I recently requested, from the EPA, an interpretation on the use of a E85 conversion kit for a vehicle I own. Their answer was a little bit disturbing. First off it appears that they have a genuine concern for the consumers in the U.S. However, I have my doubts. We as consumers have a huge choice of auto parts stores, in this country, to buy car or truck parts, to fix up or “improve” our vehicles. Some of these parts, if not properly installed, may adversely affect the vehicle’s emissions. Yet I never ever see an EPA label on them that states they are certified for a particular make or model. It seems that the EPA is trying to tell us what parts we can or cannot place on our vehicles. Is the EPA is dictating our choices to us? For a moment let’s say an E85 kit that we buy is EPA certified. Just because its EPA certified does not mean the consumer will install it properly. Then what? Only certified shops are allowed to install our kits/parts? I really suspect that the automakers have placed some untold pressure on the EPA to try to keep them out of the hands of the U.S. consumer, if not out of the country. They are investing big money into getting flex fuel vehicles going here and don’t want us to convert our vehicles. They want us to only buy new from them. Just my two cents … Now here is the email to me ... Dear Mr. D ..., I know that there are a number of manufacturers offering E85 conversion kits on the web but it is important to keep in mind that based on EPA's vehicle tampering policy, if any conversion kit that is not tested (federal test procedure) and certified by U.S. EPA for a specific make and model of vehicle, then it is illegal to manufacture, import, sell, distribute or install such uncertified systems in any vehicle owned, operated, or driven in the United States. This is primarily to protect the consumer from kits that may affect vehicle emissions and void vehicle warranties. Any certified kit should have an EPA label stating that it meets the federal emission standard on a specific vehicle. Such certified kit also puts the burden of assuring that the vehicle Warranty is not affected on the kit manufacturer. I recommend that you talk to your vehicle manufacturer to see if there is any certified kit that is made specifically for your vehicle although I understand that there are very limited certified E85 conversion kits available at this time.
