Blue Fire Technology

http://www.bluefireethanol.com/technology.htm

And there you have it.   The first facility in the US that has developed the technology to use cellulose for the production of Ethanol.  It's coming like a freight train.  The farmers in this area keep dreaming about $5.00 per bushel corn.  I have explained to them several times, this thought is completely unrealistic because at $5.00 a bushel, Ethanol cannot be produced economically.  We knew the technology was around the corner.  I have even seen recipes on the web to break the lignin barrier for the purpose of converting saw dust into Alcohol.  It has even been said that Ethanol produced from Cellulose is an even better fuel when compared to Ethyl Alcohol produced from Corn.

This is very cool!

So this is still going to be a couple years off though isn't it?

I suspect so.  Iogen in Canada is further ahead actually contructing a facility.  Purdue University developed an enzyme to crack the lignin barrier; but, I read Shell Oil purchased the patent rights.  Imagine that.   Still, the barrier can be cracked by simply using Sulfuric Acid.  I will be experiementing with this when I get my building up and can test legally without jeopardizing my federal alcohol producers permit.

Excellent Tom..   they are "claiming" that production costs are .40 cents compared to $1.10 for grain    .. if that turns out to be true this is going to fly fast.

XcelPlus is claiming they have a biomass technology and are planning on entering production..
