Certain Satisfaction
« on: March 14, 2010, 08:56:21 AM »
While I hate seeing the cost of anything go up, I do get a certain satisfaction when  gasoline prices rise while ethanol remains the same...or even goes down!  Am I a bad person??

Ahh- yes. You are a very very bad person AzDragonLord. Very bad indeed. Of course I guess that means I am bad too because I am smiling every time I see the gap widen too. Sorry I helped participate in the going off thread but it is partly Rufus's fault LOL.
Kind of remind you of first grade when the kids point- he did it ;D ;D

Thumpin- Ron Steenbilk is a paid anti-subsidy lobbyist for a Switzerland based international group. He knows full well what he is saying and does not care about facts which do not support his position. He is supposed to be against all subsidies but i challenge anyone to find more than a handful of other subsidies that he has spoke out against. His key target is ethanol.

And to those who wonder why our island state in the tropics with a failing sugar industry does not have ethanol-- they have Robert Rapier as their darling resident. I note how he just shouts down Rufus for being "ignorant about oil companies"-- yeh-right-this young expert Robert possesses ALL knowledge. Let him come to the mainland and show us where we have numerous easily available conventional unleaded to blend with ethanol for E85. By just shouting down Rufus- his fellow yes men just cluck happily and the readers of his blog (who think Robert walks on water) and tend to be the wanna-be "elitist professor change the world types- just fall down and worship him. I do not have the time for his type.

I LOVE that second paragraph. Hero worship is definitely a problem on the internet. When your detractors are simply your competitors trying to get ahead of you--often viciously AND vicariously--all you can really do is walk away. They'll pick you apart the harder you try.

Personally, I get a little frustrated at it and just go build something to feel better...

Yeah, but I got'em back on their heels now, Outlaw.  I referred them to Iowa, where Kum and Go is selling E10 for $0.13 less that E0.  That comes out to $1.30/gal.

Now, the numbers work out to this:  Deduct $0.45 for blender's credit, and $0.55 for mileage, and Ethanol is still a $0.30/gal better Value than gasoline.

So, 12 Billion gallons X $0.30 means ethanol has paid back its tax credit, and after allowing for mileage We're Still Saving $3.6 Billion/Yr.

Rufus, you're a tough guy to hang with that crowd. My teeth start grinding when I read some of those guy's thoughts. On DTN Ron Steenblik has countered me with how much cheaper military costs per gallon are compared to ethanol subsidies. Next time I'll have to ask him how much lost arms, legs, and lives are worth---he must figure zero.

Is this Ron guy mentally challenged? Apparently he is unaware of how much it costs us to be over there, even just the $$$$ part is well over the subsidies for ethanol. If our lives, limbs, and sanity are meaningless to him, would you mind having him stop by my place so I can take him for a visit to the VA? FYI the country is still paying a huge number of us for what happened to us over there. Now add in everything that is spent to keep gas cheap, all the subsidies and tax breaks, and everything else, and he seems to have a few bricks missing from the load.

I like higher gas too, but around here we are consistently above the national average for gas prices and we have only one E85 station. Yes the gouge us here, because they can. Not all of my vehicles run ethanol, those that do dont get driven in winter because they arent beaters. The latest beater will probably get converted, but still the closest station is 32 miles away.
Not knocking E85, but I don't need any gasoline. Thanks. Home grown ethanol works fine for me.

The one that's just got'em stumped, Cessna, is,

Ethanol:  $1.58

Gasoline: $2.26

They just got nowhere to go.

So what did Russ Findley boy do-?- he dazzled them with goofy 16% less pricing on E85 vs 27% % mpg loss--- AND NO ONE COUNTERED.
