Converting a 1999 Saturn SL2

I am a long commuter and live in MN. I have alots of stations that have E85. I was wondering what if it would be wise to try and convert my Saturn to E85. It does have 189,000 mile on it and burns a bit of oil. The wife is concern and so am I after reading he the Wikpedia articale. Does any one know is the 1999 Saturns have the correct fuel pumps, and engines that would make this a easyer conversion?

That is what I was worryed about. I am also concerned about getting bad fuel that has too much water in it. Any none E85 engine does not have "soft nitride coatings on their internal metal parts to provide formic acid wear resistance".  So if I get a bad bunch of fuel it could wear on the engine. I would really like to give it a try but maybe I should wait untill I purchase another used Saturn.

Flextune list Saturn and Flextek may work also depending on the injector connector/resistance type.  The fuel pump most likely will work, but the mileage and the fact that it burns oil may be a problem.  The Ethanol in E85 will loosen up all the deposits over the years.  It may make your engine problems become worse.

If the engine is wore enough that you have lost some compression your MPG may suffer also.

with that kind of mileage,it might not be cost effective,i tried half tank in my 2000 ls2 with the v6 and the check eng lite came on,i dont know of conversion kits and costs.i traded the saturn for another e85 minivan,

* E85 Pump Install Credits -Federal

Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit A tax credit is available for the cost of installing alternative fueling equipment placed into service after December 31, 2005. < /br>Qualified alternative fuels are natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, hydrogen, electricity, E85, or diesel fuel blends containing a minimum of 20% biodiesel. < /br>The credit amount is up to 30% of the cost, not to exceed $30,000, for equipment placed into service before January 1, 2009. The credit amount is up to 50% not to exceed $50,000, for equipment placed into service on or after January 1, 2009.

Fueling station owners who install qualified equipment at multiple sites are allowed to use the credit towards each location. Consumers who purchase residential fueling equipment may receive a tax credit of up to $1,000, which increases to $2,000 for equipment placed into service after December 31, 2008. The maximum credit amount for hydrogen fueling equipment placed into service after December 31, 2008, and before January 1, 2015, is $200,000. The credit expires December 31, 2010, for all other eligible fuel types. Unused credits that qualify as general business tax credits, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), may be carried backward one year and carried forward 20 years.
